Hello Mark, welcome to my blog Italian Emerging Writers. You want to talk a bit you and introduce yourself to readers?

No, sorry, I'm in a hurry and I did not really have the time ... outside the sun is so great, and if you allow, I prefer to go to the beach. Obviously I'm joking! I introduce myself, and I do it with pleasure. My name is Marco Mazzanti (but you knew that already!), I have twenty-three years and I was born in Rome, where I still live, study, design, read and write ... Yes, I write! When the fancy takes me, I do too! I consider myself a pretty quiet and lonely, shy, but sometimes I also have my bright moments, become curious and talkative.

When and how did your passion for writing? When you feel the need to publish your writing and why? Where did it all begin?
Writing as a means to express the best, so at most, one's intellect. Surely it is a choice, a choice dictated by what we feel closest to us, our attitudes. As time passes, the more I am fascinated by the world of words, and the practice of writing never ceases to amaze me! I began writing in adolescence or even before, honestly, I do not remember! I did start writing stories, poems, nursery rhymes, which she sets up paper or on the Internet, albeit under pseudonyms, I was very immature, but that does not mean it is now a writer through and through. No. You never stop learning.
In 2008 the publishing house Deinotera financed the publication of my two novels The man who painted with knives and the fate of the ship-Asia. I'm not saying to write my thoughts now only drive to see me later released, not that. But it is also true that it is now, in a process that has affected my way of thinking about writing: if I decide to write a novel, I have to be sure, because then the confrontation with the players you will only with the publication.

You un processo creativo particolare? Cosa fai mentre scrivi?
And when I feel like writing a resume filled with new energy! I do listening to music.

Who tips your books and why?
answer by simply saying: great stories for kids and / or adults. The man who painted with knives, the ship's fate - Asia and Demetrius have this green-haired.

What are your writers and / or reference books?
Dino Buzzati, Michael Ende, Isabel Allende, Neil Gaiman, Lovecraft. I really like these five authors.

No, per me non è così.
Io ho scelto fantasy because I like to mix in my stories, aspects of our normal daily with all elements of the surreal, and this in order to whet the reader's imagination, let him rediscover the pleasure of the dimension of the story in a context that is able to prove, however, hard and frank and close to us, the real world, more than we usually expect from a fantasy novel called, with regard to my books, I am referring primarily to Demetrius green hair, where they addressed issues such as' acceptance of themselves el'incomunicabilità between human beings, speaking also of The Ship of Destiny - Asia, where there is suicide and revenge taken to its most tragic consequences. But tease the imagination ... I think this is what really counts. It is very important is the spice of writing, what drives us to turn the pages with enthusiasm and desire to move on, until the word "fine". And all this beyond the kind that you decide to tackle.

Your first book if I remember correctly was "The man who painted with knives" very interesting title. The plot is rather obscure and deliberately provokes the reader's curiosity. Would you talk about you much more simplistic in tone?
The man who painted with knives is a novel about color, a noir atypical act where men and women who do not have a soul, but a color, because they themselves are, strictly speaking, the embodiment of a certain color. Dmtrj is white, gray, Shiloh, Rufus crimson, gold, Anna; Asja Magenta; Syitane burnished gold.

What makes this novel? In your opinion, what is its strong point and why readers are reading that you should buy?
I would recommend it to those who are looking for an noir outside the box.
Set in a fictitious time, timeless, Man who painted with knives is a novel where there is a positive figure (as an investigator in the case in a noir or a yellow instead of the traditional type) who tries to fight evil in order to defeat him. Both protagonists, Dmtrj and Shiloh, are driven by negative impulses and absurd will, and good characters who cross their paths become helpless victims, or miserable slaves. The encounter / clash with a third personality alienated atrocious and determine the triggering of a rapid and tragic series of events from which only one of the first two will come out alive.

The ship's fate is another fantasy asia published immediately after "the man who painted with knives" that mixes historical fact with fantasy elements. Why this choice? We also want to say what he is talking about in the book and how did the idea for his creation?
The ship's fate - Asia is a novel / fairy tale where you live, in the context of a world inspired by the bucolic medieval Greece, with elements of our regular events and fantastic characters, then improbable, extraordinary. This is primarily a book about love, friendship, revenge, resourcefulness, the story takes hold in the third part, on the occasion of major celebrations of the birthday of the Prince of Magnesia, which are held in the capital of kingdom Trikèria along the roads which will perform the great group of artists of the Cirque d'Origen. Here, Asia will know the triplets Maris, Jul, Kendeas, the beautiful tightrope Nina and the twins bearded Melquiades. Everything is infused with a vibrant atmosphere and colorful, but it is only the calm before the storm, as in a kingdom far away, Edwilanàm, the plans of a dark lord threatens the happiness of the protagonists: the time has come, after years and years of loneliness, death of the last queen, to look for a new bride, and this time in the human world!
Who is she? Asia or Nina?
From these premises is clear, I believe now, that is not a fantasy of classical, Tolken. And the idea was born from a desire to tell a new story, but somehow he had read and remember the taste of the glories of the ancient Mediterranean civilizations.

Let's talk about your latest release "Demetrius Green Hair" Would you talk about? Where does this particular story with a character to say the least unusual? What inspired you?
The gestation Demetrio green hair began in 2007, then attended a drawing course, and had one of the first lessons in anatomy, when the teacher explained to us students the muscular structure of the human body, a flash of lightning went through my mind. The classic flash of inspiration, in which I saw, in a split second, a man dressed in nineteenth century to describe a class of boys some anatomical plates. It was Joan Marcel. Although at that time writing the same ship of destiny - Asia, people forcefully entered a brand new story in me. After the painter, visualized Roze, then quickly, almost simultaneously, Demetrius, that (hear, hear!) Imagined, at first, with the appearance of an albino. Only later I had the idea to make it more similar - but only physically speaking! - To Asia, the female protagonist of the novel I was already writing, and as we know it here Demetrio now with green hair and skin that is adorned with mysterious scribbles blue. A real tree man!

Demetrius is a very introverted guy and who is excluded from the others only for an aesthetic factor. Why just this kind of character? You wanted to send a special message to readers? If so, which one?
Demetrio has green hair and white skin, but sun, instead of tan, is adorned with mysterious scribbles blue, there are those who trova ridicolo, come Greta e Charlotte, oppure bellissimo, come il pittore Joan Marcel, ma anche curioso e dolce, come Roze. Eppure nessuno (o quasi!) By asking this question, perhaps we would understand a lot about human relationships and how they deteriorate.

is not the first time in your books on the subject of different sections. Why? Why this choice in the protagonists of your books?
different character traits to get to wonder at the end, if he is really living in a world of normal human beings, or the opposite, I do not mean the man who painted with knives, which is a novel dark, so to speak, but not even the ship's fate - Asia, where the protagonist assume, paradoxically, the role of second fiddle to other characters.
Demetrius Green Hair is, above all, a Bildungsroman, which speaks of diversity, which, in the course of events, grows and interacts with his peers, and these continue to rise in him, or rather, in the reader, an observation, namely that we are all somehow different, because everyone has their own talents, their own peculiarities.

The character of the painter is very interesting. At first frustrated and almost envious of the beauty and youth is Demetrius then a balance when it encounters Roze. Where the idea of \u200b\u200bthe character in my view very realistic and very well defined?
Joan Marcel is the first character we meet in the novel, so much so that the introductory chapter was titled "The Painter." Together with Demetrius and with a woman who meets the green-haired boy in the second half of the book (I will not reveal anything!), Is one of the three most important characters. It 's a man born into a family of Andalusian origin of settlers on the continent across the Atlantic, the Vinland (ie North America), which in this fictional country that remembers the Ottoman Europe has found the meaning of life, but not the heart. Confused more than ever, poised between his love for Demetrius and Roze Vazilìsa Wiborova, daughter of a twenty-three merchant friend, Joan Marcel embodies a little 'the stereotype of the passionate and talented, but only as the stars seem so close, but in reality so distant from each other.

Where did the idea for the setting of the novel by Demetrius? It 's just mentioned and not very thorough but you can guess that we are in a hypothetical 800. What characterizes this your setting?
Compared to the other two novels, Demetrius Green Hair lives in a context much more concrete and plausible, though it is, nonetheless, of a world that our only remember vaguely as it is not, as you say, very thorough: it is not in fact a historical book!
The choice of a hypothetical set in the nineteenth century comes directly from the fascination I feel for that era, with all its contrasts, the mentality, innovations and values.

The finish is open, and many things are left unresolved. There will be a sequel to the book?
;-)

In this book, Ltd. un'altra tua passione la pittura. Come mai?

In ogni caso, staremo a vedere.

The gift can be welcome or otherwise. Get in the game and then under discussion means knowing how to collect the criticism, and not only negative but also positive ones, where it may happen to evince a misunderstanding of his book. Because it is often also a matter of feedback and feeling ... and points of view!
For me writing is a treasure, let me know so many good people, interesting, genuinely sympathetic towards me and always full of genuine advice. I hope to continue in this direction.
