The father of a girl aged 14 was killed by a small-time criminal to a stupid question. The girl, very determined, although a bit 'obtuse, decides to chase the murderess and hires for this reason an old hard, nicknamed Grit.
Grit is played by dear old Jeff Bridges, already very well experienced by the Coen brothers' The Big Lebowski it and therefore well accustomed to the idea of \u200b\u200bplaying a vicious character, rude and sloppy, but always intriguing.
The two parties and are accompanied by a Texas Ranger, played by Matt Damon, with whom there are a lot of friction.
The film begins in a slow and slightly heavy, but after taking the damping action starts to get going.
The Coen brothers have wanted to pay homage to the Western movies of the past, but they did so deliberately ambivalent. The script sometimes recalling the formal tone of the film of the year 50-60, so like the style of the characters. There are, however, are clearly unrelated to that style, as scenes of violence and realism in these films of the past we could never see. Also in the film elements have been included comic scenes in which they are deliberately mocked the clichés of the movies.
Matt Damon portrays a Texas Ranger deliberately stilted, macho traits that make the films of Robert Mitchum and John Wayne (maybe a little 'Chuck Norris while we're at) and more often than it misses the mark comically. Same for the Determination hard-hearted that makes the bully, but underneath it vaguely reminiscent of the good nature Dude.
And then we add to that crippling of the scenes particolarmente demenziali ed episodi di violenza gratuita contro pellirossa, probabilmente un altro richiamo al modo in cui erano trattati i poveri indiani nei vecchi western.
